Description Shapefile Explorer is a simple utility to let you explore shape file (.shp) and their complements.dbf and.shx files. Press the open button to choose your shape file and its accompanying dbf and shx files. Note that the app sandboxing require you to select the 3 files from the open dialog, otherwise the app won't have permission to open all the files. If you select one file only it will attempt to display what it can, but you can press the open button again and open the missing files.

Shape Viewer displays an entire shape on screen without having to load up MSTS itself enabling you to examine the entire model and lets you see exactly what it looks like in the sim. The app will show at the bottom of the screen which files it still requires if any. Once open, it will show the information for each shape included in the dbf file in a table. You can search it as well. When you tap on a line, it will display the corresponding shape on the map in the bottom part of the screen. Currently only polygons are supported.

If you have tens of shape files to browse quickly and you don't want to use heavy and expensive software such as ArcGIS or Map Info, then Shape Viewer® will be your choice. Shape Viewer® is a free and light viewer, which can be used to browse and view shape files easily. If your (.dbf or.shx) files are missing or corrupted, then you can use Shape Viewer® to generate new ones, so that you will not lose your spatial data.

You can associate (.shp) file type with Shape Viewer®, so that you can open any (.shp) file in Shape Viewer® by double-click the file in Windows Explorer.
